Most people may not know it, but Explosive Ordnance Disposal was created by Draper Kauffman who stood it up. He recruited Navy EOD techs to participate in the first UDT class at FT Pierce, FL. Seabees and Fleet Sailors also volunteered, but Navy EOD made up most of the class. UDT (in the 1960s) would go onto become the Navy SEALs of today. Draper was responsible for the SEAL predecessors unofficially known as frogmen, demolitioneers, or naked warriors. It is worth remembering this man, his actions and legacy, and his moving words set here with the sextant, a tool for measuring angular distance between an astronomical object and the horizon for the purposes of celestial navigation. We say, know where you stand and determine your path forward. Create the Future!
